WhatsApp is rolling out ‘Avatars for video calls’ on beta Android. The platform has submitted this update through the Google Play beta program. With this update, the version reaches up to 2.22.15.5. In this update, the platform is working to set up Memoji or Bitmoji while placing video calls in the future.

WhatsApp Avatars for video calls

After Meta rolled out the Avatar feature to Facebook messenger and Instagram now it is developing a similar feature for WhatsApp users. WhatsApp users will soon be able to switch to Avatar while making video calls.

After WhatsApp released its own emoji set on WhatsApp beta Android back in 2017 this is the next Big replacement the company is planning. According to the report of the leading WhatsApp news source WABetaInfo, the company had been working on the ability to allow people to use Avatar while placing video calls for a long time.

The report mentions that the ability to set up Memoji or Bitmoji alternately was in Internal testing since March. But in this current report, the news tracker brings some final specifications about the feature.

You can see that when the Avatars for video calls feature will be available, you will get a new ‘Switch to Avatar’ option within the video call screen. When you tap this option it will let you switch to your Avatar immediately. However, it will happen only after future updates of the app because this feature is currently in the development process.

Additionally, WABetaInfo has also announced that the Instant Messaging Platform will also let users send these Avatars as stickers within their chats and groups. The report further mentions that you will be able to set up your own Avatar by launching the ‘Avatar Editor. It is a proper section where you can customize the Avatar in your own way. At present, it is in configuration so when it is finally configured you will be able to send Avatar stickers.

The company also plans to introduce the same feature for iOS users also in a later update. As mentioned earlier, this feature is currently under development so it is not yet ready to be released to beta testers.
