WhatsApp is rolling out companion mode to all Android Beta testers. As known the feature lets you link an already existing WhatsApp account to an additional mobile phone. Earlier the Meta-owned platform was working on this feature. In this current beta update, the company is finally releasing it for testing.

According to the leading WhatsApp news portal WABetaInfo, this feature is widely rolling out to all the users who are currently enrolled in the program. Although the feature was first spotted back in November 2022, with this current beta update more people will be able to test it out.

WhatsApp rolling out companion mode

After WhatsApp announced companion mode the previous year it was made available only to a few select beta testers. As reported by the WhatsApp news source this feature is an extension of multi-device support. It is designed in a special way so that you can link your existing WhatsApp account to a secondary device.

You can then easily access all your chats on the linked devices without an active internet connection. Notably at present only an Android Phone or tablet can be linked as a secondary device.

To use companion mode first of all download the latest beta update of WhatsApp Messenger or WhatsApp Business on a secondary Android device. The registration page will open up. From here tap the overflow menu. Here you will see the ‘link a device’ option. Then open your WhatsApp account on the primary device.

After this go to ‘settings’ and then ‘linked devices’. Capture the QR code displayed on your secondary device. And you are done. You must know that you can link up to 4 devices at a time. Now all your WhatsApp chat history will be synced across all your linked devices.

As mentioned earlier the companion mode has been released to all beta testers using the latest version of the beta update. But some features like the ability to manage broadcast lists and posting a status update from the linked device can be missing right now. All your personal messages and calls remain fully encrypted even when you use WhatsApp from a link device. Sadly you won’t be able to pair it with an iOS device at present.
